RI Great Outdoors Pursuit to Hold Second Event Sunday at Haines Memorial State Park

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management will hold its second event for the 2011 Great Outdoors Pursuit at Haines Memorial State Park on Sunday, June 12th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The event will have a host of activities geared towards children and their families to encourage outdoor play and more physical activity. Children will be able to touch and feel sea creatures captured in Narragansett Bay at the EPA's touch tank, create art using seaweed from Rhode Island beaches, climb a 35-foot rock wall, and bike, walk, or rollerblade on a picturesque stretch of the East Bay Bike Path! East Providence Cycle and REI will also provide free bike safety checks and tune-ups to registered participants. A full list of activities and schedule appears below.
The event is free and open to the general public but teams that register for the Rhode Island Great Outdoors Pursuit are eligible for raffles. Registration is free.

Directions to Haines: Take Interstate 95 to Interstate 195E, Exit 7 to Rt. 114S/ Wampanoag Trail toward Barrington. Bear right off 114S onto Route 103 N/Country Road towards Riverside. Continue on 103N and bear slight right at the traffic circle, following Route 103. Then turn left just before Dunkin Donuts, continue around the circle until Pizza Hollywood is on the right and turn right onto Metropolitan Park Drive (right before Mobil Station). Continue on Metropolitan Park Drive onto Narragansett Avenue. Haines State Park is on the right after the bike path.

All activities 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. unless otherwise noted:
- Team Check-In 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. - Each registered child will be issued a Bingo game card for this event, which will determine eligibility for three bicycle raffles. See Bingo card for complete details.
- Biking, Walking and Rollerblading on the East Bay Bike Path -- self-guided activity with DEM check points along the way. Choose from 1 mile or 2.5 mile options. The farther you go, the more raffles you will be eligible for (see Bingo game card for details).
