The URI Cooperative Extension is celebrating its 100th anniversary next week, Tuesday, October 14th - Thursday, October 16th, by offering a variety of daytime and evening activities!

Creating a Functional Landscape for Pollinators

Transform your yard into a haven for pollinators, beneficial insects and other organisms using a few basic principles and a colorful array of plants. Whether you’re planting a butterfly, shade or edible garden, we’ll show you how to use the new, online Rhode Island Native Plant Guide to find the right plant for the right place for a variety of functions.
4-H Science Night

Youth ages 9 and up are invited to take part in the 2014 4-H National Youth Science Day Experiment: Rockets to the Rescue, the world’s largest, youth-led science experiment. Youth will work in teams to design and build a prototype aerodynamic craft designed to deliver a payload of food to natural disaster victims. Youth will also enjoy the sweet science of ice cream, a tasty experiment that demonstrates energy transfer within an endothermic reaction.

What’s up with trees? These remarkable solar cells provide us with the oxygen we breathe, the evaporative cooling and soothing shade we seek in summer. Our campus is replete with trees which were planted as lasting, trans-generational commemorations of historic events and noteworthy people.
