The 8th Annual BioBlitz in Rhode Island will be on June 1 and 2 at Trustom Pond in Charleston, RI. Sponsored by the Rhode Island Natural History Survey, BioBlitz is "an attempt by scientists and volunteer naturalists to tally as many species of organism as they can in 24 hours on a particular parcel of land. Anyone can participate, including children." They tend to choose a seemingly simple bit of land to survey but they find hundreds of species anyway. Plant identification is like a treasure hunt or detective game, and this survey, led by experienced botanists and naturalists, gets you in on the action. Check out photos from last year's BioBlitz, and plan to get in the picture this year.
