The new Botanical Center at Roger Williams Park, in partnership with the URI College of the Environment and Life Sciences Extension and Outreach Center, offers Spring Gardening School to be held Monday afternoons, 2pm to 4pm, April 2 through May 21 at RWP Botanical Center. It's a sort of abbreviated Master Gardener course,
with sessions on preparing the soil, choosing and applying fertilizers, lawn maintenance, sustainable trees and shrubs, perennials, vegetables, and garden pests.
Cost is $150, and enrollment is limited to 75 people. Contact Jo-Ann Bouley at 401-785-9450 or URI CELS Extension and Outreach Center by phone (401-874-2900) or through email. The registration form is on the Botanical Center's website.
To have such opportunities for learning about gardening in the City of Providence is splendid! More workshops and programs are now possible with the opening of the Botanical Center today. City residents as well as residents of northern Rhode Island can now participate more easily in URI gardening programs held in such a lovely and conveniently located facility. When you are at Roger Williams Park, do take time to wander through our Botanical Center ~ the Carnivorous Plant Society has installed a bog with some tiny Venus fly traps among other plants. The gardens will change as the plants establish themselves and take off. So I'm looking forward to going there frequently to see how the gardens grow.
