Next Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2004 Nobel Peace Laureate Dr. Wangari Maathai will speak at the Boston Urban Forest Coalition (BUFC), the first environmentalist and first African woman, to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. She will speak about "empowerment and hope for the future through the simple steps of planting and protecting trees in our communities" at Boston's Faneuil Hall, 7:30 pm. General Admission: $75, VIP Reception and Ticket $175. Let's look for news of this event. Perhaps the tickets are already sold out.
I just noticed that excerpts and some photos of 2004 Nobel Peace Laureate Dr. Wangari Maathai's presentation to the Boston Urban Forest Coalition last October are online now. The excerpt is a 7-minute Youtube video. She is called the "Tree Lady," and has organized women in Africa to plant more than 40 million trees. There are several other videos of her on Youtube. This is the link to the Nobel Committee's announcement of her award: http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/peace/laureates/2004/press.html
